Comment
So many rumors has been going round saying that schools will resume on 20th November, while some are also saying that schools will resume on 25 of May 2020, some are still deliberating on the motion that schools will resume on 1st of June following the extension of stay-at-home by two weeks. As it was extracted from presidential TaskForce on Covid-19, saying that Buhari extends easing of lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun for additional two weeks starting from 18th May 2020.
I tell you this; all could be mere rumors as the exact day of School resumption has not been said.
If you could remember, president Muhammad Buhari added more two weeks lockdown extension to some state in Nigeria. Like Kano lockdown has been extended to 2 weeks, inter-state travel are still banned, lockdown/ curfew started from May 4th to June 1st. Looking at this, schools resuming this month is still under probability.
In accordance to the special adviser of media and publicity to the president Muhammad Buhari, by name Femi Adeshina. He highlighted that schools may re-open for those going to seat for west African examination this year (WAEC). Meaning that they might be permitted to return to class due to the preparation of their exams. Though this view is still under probability.
The Boss Mustapha, chairman of the presidential task force on covid-19 revealed that, as Nigeria relaxes lockdown, country records more COVID-19 cases than ever, hereby making President Muhammadu Buhari to approve two weeks extension of the ongoing movement restrictions across Nigeria because the country is “not yet ready for full opening of the economy”.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, made this known, on Monday, at the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19. It was made know that the ongoing extension will be effective from 18th May to June 1.
As for the tertiary institutions, Federal government are still deliberating if schools will resume on June 2020 for Universities and polytechnics, but it’s still under probability though lockdown can be relaxed any moment from now.
So looking at this, all students are advised to stay at home until the new resumption date is announced, it might be probably announced on 1 June 2020.
