Court grants singer Portable N2 million bail after pleading not guilty

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been granted a N2 million bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

On Thursday, February 20, the ‘Zeh Nation’ boss was arraigned by the police on a five-charge bordering on conspiracy, assault and restriction, armed with cutlasses and guns, conduct possible of causing harm to Ogun public officials.

He was charged alongside his nine associaltes as they pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against them.

According to the police (prosecutor), Portable and his allies – Nurudeen Warris, Adetola Alashe, Fatimo Muhammed, Oluwaseun Ayenuwa, Ifeoluwa Babatunde, Precious Ohiegebo, Samuel Adeleke, Gospel Kanu, and Oluwapelumi Adeosun, breached the peace of the public with an intention to kill.

They had allegedly attacked town planning officers who were in Portable’s bar (Odogwu Bar) for monitoring and enforcement assignment.

Having pleaded not guilty, the singer’s lawyer, Oluwatoyin Ayodele pleaded to the court to grant his client bail, stating that Portable is now remorseful and has since learnt his lessons.

After listening to the plea, the Magistrate, O L Oke granted Portable N2 million bail with one surety in the like sum.

Oke also adjourned the case till March 5, 2025, for trial.

This comes a day after he turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department in Yaba, following a declaration by the Ogun State Police Command that he was wanted.
