John Obi Mikel is the greatest Nigerian footballer of all time – Rapper Odumodublvck asserts

Popular rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, known as Odumodublvck, has sparked controversy by declaring John Mikel Obi the greatest Nigerian footballer of all time.

Taking to his official page on the popular microblogging platform X formerly called Twitter, rapper Odumodublvck, the “Declan Rice” hitmaker tweeted; “Mikel Obi is the greatest Nigerian footballer of all time.”

Odumodublvck’s tweet sparked mixed reactions from fans and football enthusiasts. While some agreed, others strongly disagreed, citing legends like Rashidi Yekini, Nwankwo Kanu, Jay-Jay Okocha, Stephen Keshi, and Christian Chukwu as greater players.

One user, @GideonGeorge, countered, “Mikel is not the greatest but the most successful, the greatest is Okocha.”

Another, @mmakachi, added, “You know wetin be greatest? Him no even near Stephen Keshi or Chairman Christian Chukwu.”

@OddFeature__ added, “On paper with stats perhaps, but on the pitch it can only be one answer and ‘he was so good they named him twice’.. Thank you sir for your time 🙏🏽.”

Regardless of the debate, Mikel Obi’s achievements speak for themselves. At Chelsea, he secured multiple trophies, including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and the 2012 UEFA Champions League.

Internationally, he played a vital role in Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON victory and earned an Olympic bronze medal in 2016.

In 2013, he further cemented his legacy as the African Footballer of the Year runner-up.

Mikel Obi is one of the richest players in Africa and even he is the richest player in Nigeria with a net worth of  $45 million.

Mikel began his career at Plateau United before moving to Norwegian club Lyn at 17 in 2004. In 2006, he made a controversial switch to Chelsea after Manchester United claimed to have signed him.

Spending 11 years at Chelsea, he later moved to China with Tianjin TEDA in 2017. After two years, he returned to England with Middlesbrough on a short-term deal before joining Trabzonspor in July 2019.

In August 2020, Mikel returned to England once more, signing with Stoke City. John Mikel Obi officially announced his retirement from football on September 27, 2022.

John Mikel Obi is married to Olga Diyachenko, a Russian businesswoman. They have twin daughters, Ava and Mia.\

As the debate rages on, fans continue to question whether Mikel’s achievements make him Nigeria’s greatest footballer or if legends like Okocha, Yekini, and Kanu deserve the title.
