Governor Soludo cancels IPOB Monday sit-at-home order in Anambra state

On Friday, March 25, 2022, Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo who is the current governor of Anambra State has ended the Monday sit-at-home order given by the Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) and directed all civil servants in the state to resume work on Mondays.

Since the court trial of the leader of IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu began following his arrest in Kenya; the group has been enforcing a sit-at-home order on the days of his court hearing and every Monday which is only observed in Igbo land.

The leadership of the IPOB has however cancelled the sit-at-home citing instruction from the IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s order as the main reason for the cancellation.

A group called ‘Auto-pilot’ faction of the IPOB insisted that the sit-at-home must continue which have resulted in many lives being lost in the south-east on Mondays as many miscreants and criminals enforces the order.

However, Governor Soludo, the newly democratically elected-governor of Anambra state who took over from Willie Obiano appears dissatisfied with the order as he made it known that the order is counterproductive to the development of the state and in Igbo land in general hence the sit-at-home is only being observed in Igbo land.

As a result, the Chief executive of the state has directed all civil servants to report to work every Monday the same way they do during other working days.

The order was contained in a circular dated Friday, 25th March 2022 and was signed by the Anambra State Head of Service, Barrister Theodore Igwegbe.

According to the document, absence from work on Mondays or any other day without approval shall be seen as gross misconduct which ‘shall attract appropriate sanctions.’

The document reads in part;

“‘ATTENDANCE TO WORK.

Following the need to reposition the service for better performance and productivity, His Excellency, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has directed that all Public Servants should henceforth report at their places of work on Mondays as they do on other workdays.

Consequently, absence from duty on Mondays or any other official workday without approval will be viewed as serious misconduct which will attract appropriate sanctions. This directive takes immediate effect.

Political Office holders, Permanent Secretaries and all Heads of Non-ministerial Departments are to disseminate the content of this circular to all Public Servants under their supervision and also monitor compliance.”
